Ohhhhh the orange one is Isa, the other one (gray) is pied... I got it the other way around!

I looked up "phaeo zebra". Found an image with one sitting on someone's hand. Awww, too bad my zebra isn't that domestic :(

Na definitely not phaeo, the colour of a phaeo continues down the front of the chest aswell as the cheek

I still think it's a European Isabel :-BD

Admitingly not the best of exhibition standards but an Euro Isabel nevertheless

haroun hi fella,

Google image of a cock phaeo, you will clearly see that the dark orange cheek patch actually continues from the cheek , side of head and continues all the way through the chest,

The video clearly shows that the bird doesn't have this visual colouration,

It now clearly shows that the bird is a European Isabel and the other bird a pied , both cocks

Mmm....yea did have another look at video and enlarged it this time as much as poss,

Looking at the bird normally it looks like an Isabel but up very close does look that it could possibly be a phaeo

I went back to the petshop today. And we stumbled upon the same gir who sold this "pair" to us ~3 months ago. I told her about this, and she was very upset (mad, not sad) when I tried to convince her about my findings. She kept claiming that she has a loft of birds (not sure where, maybe she meant she has a cage with 3 parrots or such, and she thinks she's some kind of expert?). Like... we should listen to her for she is 100% correct.

Regardless. I talked to the manager. He was very understanding, especially after I showed him the article I linked to in my initial post (OP of this thread), and agreed that I could exchange one of my finches for a hen at their store.

Surprisingly, the zebra finches cage was kind of empty. I mean there were only 6 birds in there. We used to visit this petshop once every 2 weeks or so, and the cage was almost always filled with 15+ birds. Oh well... Unfortunately, there were no hens in the cage, only males. Or so they seemed? I took some pictures, and I urge you to see them. Looks like there were two more European Isabels in there. :D

The manager told me I should return on Thursday, that's when they'll most likely "refill" the cage :)

-----

Down below you can see three pictures I took to show to the store. Hope you can see the Isabel very clearly. He was very joyful today, couldn't catch him in any more still photos...
