Help with Yellow Droppings

Post by LadyGouldianGirl » Tue Aug 16, 2016 2:02 pm

Hi all.
Question concerning my 2 Gouldians. I've noticed the past 2 days that the droppings in my cage have a yellow color. Overall consistency is normal and center is still whitish/greyish. I looked up on the LadyGouldian site and yellow means liver problems so I'm a bit worried.

I give Hearty Bird vitamins in the water every day since both birds reject fresh veggies. Could I be over-doing the vitamins? I don't know which bird is having the issue but both birds are very active, singing, eating normally, and showing no signs of illness yet. I'm thinking to stop the vitamins and see if it goes away but then they won't be getting any vitamins at all since they turn their little beaks away from the fresh stuff. Is this even something I should worry about at this point? Could a healthy bird have a yellow tint to the droppings from time-to-time without it being something bad? Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas?

Not to worry about your birds not eating fresh foods... it is only suppose to be 10% of their diet... what else are you feeding, any pellets, dried egg food? Are the vitamins yellow? Food vitamins can leech into the urine of the droppings from the fecal matter.

Can you get a close up picture of the droppings on white paper or paper toweling?

For seed I used Volkman Super Finch and Goldenfest Australian blend (I offer each in separate cups). They also get crushed eggshells sprinkled on top of both seed offerings. Additionally, I have a cup of Herb Salad available at all times.

The vitamins are a white powder and don't turn the water yellow :?

I'll get a picture for you when I get home from work.

I use the Australian Goldenfeast from time to time... seems to be a good source of nutrition.... used it along with seed, dried egg food and pellets when I went away for two weeks to Alaska. Our daughter fed and took care of everyone for me...birds did great on it!!!
