slwatson Madcat Stuart whiting

Right on schedule she laid her first egg last Saturday the 13th. 6 total. There's always that uneasiness with a brand new pair that are young and have never bred. Added to the worry is that Bubbles was handfed as a baby. I kept her from last winter's babies because she was very gentle with unweaned juvies and always seemed to want to regurgitate for them when they cried for food.

So last night was day 6. X_X I kept the birdroom quiet , as one side of the room's lights went out (on timers). Then right on que, instead of sleeping outside on the branch, she plopped herself into the nest for the evening. She's sitting tight! First try. \M/

This morning Bubbles came out briefly to eat and Jet flayed around in my face as I did water changes on their flight. He really is a protective male. I was quite impressed with his "get away from my nest!!" display. :YMDAYDREAM:

Then he went inside the nest with her and has been helping her incubate all morning.
Very nice way to kick off the season. Hopefully the two will keep it up the next 14 days to hatching. Now it's wait & see.

Babs, how exciting!! Gorgeous birds. Can't wait to see pix of the babies these two beauties produce.

My son is at Ft. Belvoir, Madcat. The next time I visit him, I just might have to bring home a new gouldie :D

Shannylee. Babs. Thanks guys!!! I had a great teacher/breeder that took me under his wing. We all know how tricky these birds can be. But their beauty outweighs the drama that sometimes occurs. Glad to see people put a lot of care into them just like I do! If you have questions about what I have left just let me know. I'm starting a new season and have to make room!

Congrats! I plan on setting mine up in the next week or so. I've been pumping in that egg food and the beaks are darkening!!

Oh boy!! Set a post up and lets see the"love birds" you have set up for this year!

By the way...Tonight will be day 5 that Jet and Bubbles are sitting tight. Even the weekend vacuum could not shake Bubbles off the nest.

It's looking good!! :YMPARTY: So glad I spotted Bubbles amongst the juvies trying to feed the rest of them. I just KNEW she was a keeper with a strong maternal urge.. Jet is still flapping in my face to keep me at bay away from his woman and his nest. I am estastic! Not a one of my pairs performed this good on this first round. wooohoo!

As soon as things calm down at this first week back to school, ~X( , I'll get some pics posted. I've got to clean and get some birds moved around! I've got an overflow of society babies right now!

My other two pairs are taking forever to molt. One of my hens only just started to molt.
