Egg laying nesting Red Billed Fire Finch
i have a pair of Red Billed Fire Finches who have started nesting behavior in a wooden box that I have on the floor of their aviary/flight cage. The male has stuffed lots of dried grass and newspapers shreds that he ripped into it and the female has laid 10 eggs now, 9 in the box. They go in and out of it a lot, but have not set for any steady length of time. Wondering if they will get around to it or ? They are the most interesting finches that I have owned so far. Always busy doing something. Anyone with experience in breeding them?

10 eggs is unusual for Fire finches, they usually lay around 4-5. Could they be young, this their first clutch?

Yes, they could be young. I bought them this spring and have no idea on age.

I'd give it some time, they are not the easiest finches to breed (most of the waxbills aren't easy).
