Our first Gouldian baby.
I thinks it's a singleton, but it's the first chick for us. We've heard it for a bit and it finally fledged. The father is a RH, PB and the hen is a Yellow bodied, WB that has some thinks she's split for. They're feeding the chick well....fingers crossed that it continues to mature well.

Cute chick! The father is a RH, PB and the hen is a Yellow bodied, WB that has some thinks she's split for.
When you say the father is RH.PB ... is it Green bodied? Could he be SF Pastel (SF Yellow)? Are all normally black areas grey rather then black?
Hen is WB.Pastel (yellow) ... What color head does she have? What do some think she is split to?

I'm not quite up on my Gouldian terminology, sorry. The male has a red head lined in black with a purple chest and green back. The hen is all yellow with a red mask/face that is a broken red, not quite solid. She is suppose to be split for something (my iPad said 'some think'), but I don't remember what she is split for. The breeder/vender rattled it off, along with what the male I bought with her (an yellow head) that was also split for several things. Wish I had a pen and paper with me at the time. But seeing what he or she will become is, at least to me, exciting.
And for those who note how noisy Zebra babies are, they as a group don't hold a candle to this baby Gouldian by its lonesome!!!!!!

Re: Our first Gouldian baby.
The only way you will get a yellow bodied bird from that pair is if the male is split to WhiteBreast. So you know your male is at least RH.PB/WB.Green and your hen is RH.WB.Pastel
This being the case then the chick is a WB.SF Pastel Because he has a WB his body color will be yellow, if he had a PB then his body color would be Green. All hens from this pair will be Green. All chicks will be RH and either WB or PB/WB barring any other hidden genes.
best of luck

Re: Our first Gouldian baby.
Wow - Thanks Debbie. I will enter that into my book and keep track of the pair if they produce again. Will repost another picture once he has his first molt. Don't know if they have another one in the nest or started a second clutch as the parents are in and out of the nest. Looks like they are feeding, but no audible peeps yet. This one (my other half has named him Sunny) was fairly well along when he was heard in the nest.

Re: Our first Gouldian baby.
Just a quick update. Sunny is doing very well and his parents had a second clutch with a brother with the same coloring and a sibling that is a green back with purple breast. They have just fledged and I've pulled out all the nests to give everyone a rest, especially the lone female Shafttail that has laid eggs in each nest and helped Sunny's folks incubating, but was no longer welcomed when they hatched. Will post picks soon.
So far, Sunny's head has remained white ( not the darker coloration in the pictures above) and he has no coloring to his face. Probably will change with his next molt?
