Re: Multiple dead
So sorry.
Here's a tip if you every run out or short on seed... take the cockatiel seed and run it through a strainer that has holes for smaller millets only to fall through, I have had to do this a couple of times when the order did not come in on time for the finch seed, combined it with the finch seed I had left and it got me through.

So sorry for your loss.
*Open all your windows and get fresh air all through the house!!!*
Could have been the seeds, but I doubt it. As was already mentioned, Cockatiel mixes do contain lots of small seeds (unless it's some sort of a specialized mix that doesn't). Did they have fresh water?
Again as was mentioned, I'd be very concerned about environmental things.
-Any new non stick cookware?
Did you have any work done in the house?
-Carpet cleaning
-Servicing of any kind?
-Painters?
-Cleaners?
-Window cleaners?
Do you have a Carbon monoxide detector????
This would be my concern with such a sudden loss.

I'll check my cockatiel food when I get home. I'll ask my fiancé if he made sure the water bowls were rinsed, I'm sure he did. I'll buy a carbon monoxide detector too but the only thing has we have is our furnace which hasn't been used in months and it's brand new. ThanksBabs wrote: Bdenton

Make sure it's the food first. (Im looking right now at a bag of cockatiel food off my shelf and my finches could live off of this a few days if I filled their bowls each morning...it has like 50% millet)
If its something else, the other birds are still in danger.
Water supply tainted (like soap residue) ?
Room Air purifier with ionizer?
Gosh I would check the gas. Small leaks can pop up anytime.

Thank you for the kind words. I am a crazy animal lover, I've been involved in rescue for 20 yrs. I would never harm an animal intentionally. I can't help but take it hard though, these guys depended on me. Ugh.lem2bert wrote: Bdenton
I am so sorry that you lost so many of your pets. Please do not be so hard on yourself ......you did not do anything deliberately that would kill your birds you seem like a very thoughtful and caring owner. I hope that the three left make it . Good luck and please keep us updated.

Re: Multiple dead
There has been absolutely no change in our house. We have no carpet, we hardly ever cook but when we do they are not new pans, no air fresheners, no paint, nothing. Which is why I'm so darn confused. There hasn't been a single change in our home. I'm at such a loss.lovezebs wrote: Bdenton

I'll be buying a carbon monoxide detector tonight just in case but our furnace is the only gas thing in our home.
Thanks tho!!!

Re: Multiple dead
The remaining three are doing great! They look perfect! I did buy a carbon monoxide detector last night and it's on, but no alarm. Which is good! I don't know what happened. I wish I knew. Everyone else in the bird room is doing fantastic! Thanks so much for checking in! All of you on this forum have been so great!

I'm so so sorry for your loss! I know it's heartbreaking, but please don't be so hard on yourself. Things happen and sometimes we never find out why.

Re: Multiple dead
I'm with the others. Don't beat yourself up. It sounds like there was an environmental issue that your poor little ones succumbed to. It would take more than 4 days to kill a bird by malnourishment and they would not have looked spritely the day before.
Whatever happened clearly passed through and didn't leave any clues.
Sorry for your awful loss.
