Society babies are all grown up

Post by slwatson » Tue Sep 13, 2016 10:08 am

These are just a few of the new society finches my two pairs had and raised over the summer. My favorites are crested and I ended up with several. They're so cute!

They are so fun to watch...the males are all just singing away at the bottom. I can't believe how fast they can multiply!

Thanks Barbara! They all get along so well! I know I have chocolate self, and I'm pretty sure the darker tan are self fawn or self chestnut. The really white one with the crest and the very light tan ones have a self chocolate father and a crested albino mother. I was hoping a society expert could help me in figuring out what I have, but I think I'm right.

Slwatson I am always confused on colors society, zebras and especially gouldians.but I would have to say my family of six society are my favorite they are so comical to watch.I enjoyed watching the babies grow and learn from there dad I could never part with any of them they are very content to live in there huge flight cage.here is a picture of them when they first fledged months ago they still all love that swing.the first pic.is three of them now All the babies look exactly like there dad the only way I can tell them apart is the dad is banded, mom has more brown then white.

They also come in frilled, but I don't have any of those. I've even seen them with crested and frilled feathers...I think they're beautiful!

This morning was a very sad one....I checked on one of my cages of societies, and Professor McGonagall, aka "Grandma:, had died. She was a fantastic bird...always willing to help raise anything I gave her. She surprisingly ended up mothering two clutches of her own before she passed. She was my albino crested. RIP Grandma! We're gonna miss you

She's the one on the left...the woman who gave her to me said she used to get plucked by her cage mates because she was the only one with white feathers, so the feathers around the back of her neck and shoulder area never grew back. She was an amazing bird. All of the pastels and whites in the above pics are hers.

Dilute and Pastel societies? Don't think I've ever heard of those before.
Interesting

Sorry to hear of your loss. I'm sure she was very happy in your care.
