Societies not breeding

Post by ac12 » Mon Oct 03, 2016 11:53 pm

I thought societies were like zebras in their desire to mate and breed.
I have 2 pairs, in separate cages, for MONTHS, and nothing. :?

I can't figure out what I might be missing, that is causing them to not breed.

That is really odd, as Societies normally are like rabbits. Are you positive you have two male/female pairs?

I've noticed my societies form strong bonds. My female Deuce absolutely will not pair off/mate with any other male than my CackleJax (and thank goodness because his song is so awful no other female will have him).
Are their cages close together? Have you noticed a lot of "conversation" going on between the two cages?

Is it possible your females may prefer the males in the other cages? I'd try switching their partners.

Sally, I think so.
One laid a few dud eggs, so I know that one is a hen.
I've seen the males court the hens, but I've not seen the hens court the male. So I figures I have M/F pairs.

Babs,
They can hear the other societies, but not see them.
The only chatter between cages was when I had one pair separated. Now that they are together, no more chatter.

The hens have only been paired with the males they are with. So the only bond would be just not liking the male I have them paired with.
