When to remove the nest?

Post by neojinnx » Tue Oct 11, 2016 4:55 pm

Hi all!

When is the appropriate time to remove the nest after chicks fledge? We had four owls fledge two weeks ago. They are doing really well but they are still sleeping in the nest at night. I'd like to remove it for sanitary reasons but I don't want to do it too early.

neojinnx I would think owls are the same as most finches when my society had four babies I took nest out the day the last baby came out,I will do the same for my gouldian's.I didn't want any more babies and if you leave nest in they could start another clutch. This is what I have done someone with more experience with owls could give you better advice.Your little owl family is adorable, that is a great picture of the little family

Congrats on the Owl babies, they are adorable! I agree with Barbara, the nest can come out any time after the babies have fledged. Owls love to sleep in nests, so they will continue to use it, but it also encourages more eggs/babies. The parents will soon start another clutch if you don't remove the nest. I see you have artificial plants in the cage, that is good, as Owls will sleep in plants if there is no nest.

I pull my nest the day all the chicks are out of the next.
At the end of they day, they will sometimes scramble, looking for their nest, where it used to be. But they will get over it.
