Baby Gouldians starting to fledge.

Post by Chrismurdoch3 » Thu Oct 13, 2016 12:20 am

Well its that wonderful time of year again where the baby gouldians are starting to come out in full force. I have 5 pairs that are all sitting on fertile eggs or have chicks. I'm very excited and hoping to get some strong yellow lines started and some blue and silver lines started (VERY EXCITED). I just love the gouldians and their colors they are just absolutely gorgeous. Here are a few pics of several babies that have fledged this week.

I vaguely remember you contemplating this area as an aviary! So glad it worked out well! =D> Would love to see the whole set-up at a bit of a distance. Looks great!

Congrats.

I'm still waiting for mine to just mate
I may have to separate and rest them, and set up new pairs to mate.

Chrismurdoch3 Congratulations,I had my first gouldian babies fledge today too they are very different parents then the society, they are the only other ones I have let have one clutch they were what I call helicopter parents not at all like my gouldian's,they are so relaxed and laid back not nervous at all, It took everything I had in me to walk away when I sat and watched the parents just continue grooming therself and eating while babies were calling for them, but as soon as they stoped crying parents would go right in in feed they are just such good parents and it's there first clutch.

GouldianGuy

Gary, if your gouldian pairs can see each other, then they may not mate honey. They will guard instead. Try blocking of the view of the pairs and make them feel more secure. Hope that helps. [-o< I'd like to see you turn some out this year!

Dont switch pairs, that just prolongs the adjustment. Just block everyone off from each other.

Yes a couple years ago i posted about trying out converting my window well into a flight for my gouldians. So far it has been working out very well and all of the pairs seem to be getting along fairly well. Tomorrow Ill snap a couple pictures of the entire window well.
Heres a pic of their nest boxes and a short video of the pairs eating some egg food

That's a smart idea! It appears open to the air above? otherwise I'm sure they'd cook!

I'm jealous!

Yes after the picture I put a board over their nest boxes to provide shade throughout the day. They love to sun bathe and hang out in the fake plants.
