My personal experience was that owls are harder then gouldians. If I even glanced at their nest they abandoned it. After the first year they settled in more but I would never say they were as easy as I've heard societies are.

I think Every owl pair is different, I had a few pairs of owls both normal and fawn, and it was hard for me to get them to stop breeding. I have also had pairs that I didn't have any success with either. They seem to be more delicate than a society finch or even a gouldian finch IMO, but the pairs that bred for me I didn't do anything different with them than I would for my societies or gouldians. They are very fun to have though and a quite peaceful little finch.

I had bought a pair of owls and after quartine I put them in my flight cage (3- F030 cages put together)with my family of six society they were the meanest finches I ever seen,I think they wanted to kill my society especially one I set up another cage at the door and all my society went in in a second to get away from them.I ended up bringing them back and traded for my first pair of gouldians.I don't think I would ever get another pair and they were one of my favorite looking finches they are adorable

I have a cage that will fit 2 birds comfortably so they would have their own cage. I'm not worried about them breeding, if they do ok, if they don't ok. Now I must have to find them.

Owls are related to Zebra finches, so they have some of the same characteristics, though they aren't nearly as easy to breed as Zebras. They are quite active, funny little personalities. Since you don't care whether they breed or not and have a cage just for them, I think you would really enjoy them.

Owls are the ADHD Kids of the Finch World. They NEVER stop moving.... Harder to breed than Gouldians. But adorable, and sweet.
