My zebra finch girl got injured wing, help!!:(

Post by David » Tue Jan 24, 2017 6:37 pm

Hi everyone, oh my poor baby birdie was getting droppy wing, on her left side since 2 days ago. I keep warm light for her and fed lot of calcium, egg food, millet etc. she was eating fine but still I'm worrying if this is injured wing? (I will attach the pic soon because the file showing too big now , maybe I need to convert it) her left wing got little reddish or pinkish color but no bleeding. Btw she was not fighting or anything with other mate , I observed that everyday so maybe she got wounded when trying to play with toy swings I offered her? Please give me some advices what to do , since I don't have vet around me, I hope she will be able to heal soon :( thanks in advance and hope see some advices here thanks!

PS: I current put her in hospital cage and lower the perch and if possible she can eat on the floor instead :p her wing was kinda open half when perch and not stretch out or flying properly :/ looks like something stuck between but I'm afraid to touch or see it because don't wanna make things worse , hope can heal by its own?

David

I really can't tell much from the photo, but you have done the right thing by setting her up with lower perches, etc. to make it easier for her to get around. I'd also add some heat with a heat lamp, as it always seems to help. A heat lamp can be as simple as a gooseneck desk lamp with a 60w bulb, aimed at one end of one perch, so she can move away if it gets too warm.

David

It's really difficult to say what could have happend.
She probably injured it on something in the cage, or another bird grabbed it and yanked it.

There is really not much that can be done, other than what you are already doing. Finches are so tiny, that you can't really reposition things, or wrap the injured wing to the body as you would with bigger birds.

Hopefully things will heal on their own.

My Java finch had gotten her wing out of place & it was lower than the other wing. She could not fly or stretch her wing out very far. I didn't do anything with it, just put water and food at ground level for her. In about a week it was back in place, & she was flying around again. Whatever happened ocurred when she was caught by the person I bought her from. I hope yours will get better soon too.

Hey thanks everyone so kind and happy hear from you! Sorry I was busy over the weekend no time post here. The little bird looks better even she still jump around not flying normal yet lol! Seems like she was getting better but when she perched and her body kinda like put the body weigh on the right side, since her left wing still dropping like, but I think by low the perch and with food/water on the cage floor helps a lot, yes I did put the warm lamp last week since I post up the pic here above. Sorry that was not the good pic because I don't wanna handle her cause more injury :( but so far she is doing ok, but I guess it takes more time to heal because the pinkish color still there on the inner-tip of the left wing. Thanks everyone, I'll keep post up here this week!

Hi everyone , just let you know that my little birdie is doing fine and most of the wing part growing some more feather . So far so good , thanks for your time :) she is eating fine and able to fly some now, I think it's just take time to recover 100% I provided all the best food to her and keep her in hospital cage since the injury occurred.

Yeah she is doing so well and looks like normal now. Just tiny dropping wings like but so far so good :) but one bad news is that my other male finch died today , when I was changing water and saw him on floor with some hair off kinda some bald like, and head with injured bleeding , looks like the other male peck him death :( only 2 male finches in same cage and usually I don't see them fight , so do you know why?

My heart sank when I saw that, and hate myself I would save him if separated them and put one into other cage :(
