New Canaries

Post by Chrismurdoch3 » Sat Feb 25, 2017 6:50 pm

I was able to get my hands on some new canaries a few weeks back. They are
Red Lipochrome Mosaic and (2 pairs)
Red lopochrome Satinett (1 pair)
I was able to get 3 pairs they are just over a year old and getting ready to breed this spring for me.
The males have already been singing up a storm and the hens are starting to get broody, I'm hoping around mid march they will be ready to go.
Pictures don't do justice on how pretty these canaries are.
If i can figure out how to post videos on this then i will upload the males singing.

The cool thing about Mosaics on pure strains is that you usually can tell the genders, the females markings on their backs are a lot lighter than the males.

Thank you everyone i am very excited for this breeding year my males are singing like crazy and my females are almost ready i think ill give them 1 to 2 weeks more before i set them with the males. They are already playing with the nesting material and paying close attention while the males sing. All of my hens this will be their first year breeding so hopefully ill have some good mothers and they won't have an issue on raising their chicks. I will most definitely keep you updated on progress.

Is that a window well that you converted into an aviary? What great idea!

Yes i was able to convert 3 of my window wells into flights for some of my birds. it has been really fun and you get to enjoy your birds from the comfort of your couch.
