Hello everyone and good morning. I had a little question.
I am wanting to give my finches some fresh green sprouts but am unsure of what I should give them. I have been attempting to grow some coleus rainbow mix and one of my planters isn't doing very well (lack of draining I think). So here's my question: is coleus sprouts safe to give to finches? If not what other greens would be good for my babies?

Re: Fresh greens
Hi,
(if you get lawn grass seed, make sure it is not treated seed)
Some seeds are really expensive, and not used much for sprouts. If you have a seed mix for your birds that doesn't have additives, just plain seeds of various types, you can use that.
Coleus is in the Mint family, but I've never heard of birds eating that.
Check out this source: http://www.hermanbros-seed.com/ You can probably get a lot of these locally, since you live in Iowa.

Re: Fresh greens
Dave thank you, I'll take a look at the site you suggested. And thank you for the list of greens and seeds to try.

Re: Fresh greens
My finches LOVE dill, and will readily devour the sprouts. I normally just sprout their seeds, and they gobble those up.
2 black cheek zebras and 5 CFW zebras, one A&M pied coturnix hen, my darling cream/lavender coturnix roo, and his attitude.

Be sure to check the Nutrition section of the Finch Info Center as well. There are several good articles on what is safe to feed your finches, as well as other topics.

Re: Fresh greens
Alfalfa sprouts are good.
When you say "greens" I thought actual greens such as kale etc. I assume you're feeding them their veggies?

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.
