That is one heck of day bird......shopping......I mean, ummm chatting!

The face on the zebra with the droplet over the eye is adorable. It looks like a stuffed animal. But you know me, I'm eyeing that society over there. You see those lovely scales on it's chest, oh my I just HAVE to get one of those one day!

Ohhh, some more tea! Thank You! I'd love some! Chocolate in my tea? Oh no thank you. Ohhh you meant you're giving me that divine chocolate society??
Oh no no! I couldn't! I shouldn't.

**laughing waving my hand around meekly*

SNATCH!!!! **feathers flying**

My , my! It's been such a LOVELY visit!! Tah Tahh!

=))

Babs

It was a nice visit, lol.

The one Socie, is prettier than the other.....almost black, but couldn't take just one, could now? I still have no idea if they are male and female, shrug.

You would have loved all those youngster Gouldians Babs, they were gorgeous.

I had a good laugh, 'cause he has loads of Canaries. He was showing me one pair, and explaining that they are on eggs, see..... He pulled down the cage, and we were greated by 3 huge mouthed chicks, with long giraffe necks....

He was telling me, that he'd actually had some multiple clutch clutches, with parents only feeding the first clutch. He doesn't hand feed and Socies were all busy, so he mentioned having to leave the chicks to die, or 'disposing' of them.... I could have strangled him.

I gave him the look
YOU DO NOT DISPOSE OF CHICKS, OR LET THEM DIE, YOU CALL ME!!!!

So now I might be in for it, lol.

Like Babs, I also like that self or black society, though the rest leave me cold. I like those scaly-breasted societies because they look like wild birds!

With some friends, we are still on the look for some White-rumped munias, wild ancestors of the Societies, here.

I was looking at these dark Socies, particularly the one, and actually wondering if these guys are not somewhat different from the run of the meal Societies. They just seem so different somehow...bigger beaks, different shaped heads....I don't know, just different in some ways (and not just the colour)

If you look at bird #1, then look at bird #2, isn't it hard to believe that these are the same species?

He disposes of chicks instead of replacing eggs with duds? :((

Oh my, I would hand him a bag of fake eggs next time you see him.

Babs

From what I understood, the kids laid a clutch and sat tight. Then a week or so later apparently laid some more eggs, followed by more eggs some time after.

They sat tight the whole time.

First clutch hatched, parents fed, second clutch hatched and they apparently fed some but not enough. By the time third clutch hatched, the first clutch was fledging. The parents followed the fledges, leaving clutch 2 and 3 to their own devices.

Kev, works full time, with most of his work taking him to the smaller towns around Calgary. So although he comes home daily, he is not home a lot. Hand feeding is not an option, and if there are no pairs ready to foster, then....

Not my way of doing things, but.....
That's why I told him that if he has any orphaned or abandoned babies to let me know. I'll take them, then at least they will have a chance at survival.

So what is your bird count after today? Have you broken the 100 bird barrier yet?

I'm jealous that you have all those little sweeties. Off the subject, I made your Super Duper recipe today, and my guys devoured it. They've never touched the mealworms before, I guess that's the only way I will get the birds to eat them.
