Constipation problem after spray millet?

Post by Koko » Mon May 01, 2017 3:11 am

I suppose Balbino (male) has a constipation after a spray millet. It is possible? Or maybe to much egg shells he ate, to little water drunk?

It is not the first time he has got such a problem. Yesterday I gave them the spray millet, and today he cannot poop again.

So... maybe I shouldn't feed them a spray millet in the future, but now... what can I do to help him to thrive and poop? Oil? Apple juice? Heat bulb? Sth another?

Poor Balbino :((

I would offer some greens and maybe a bit of fruit if he'll eat it, like a grape cut in half, maybe a piece of orange, or pear.

A nice lukewarm bath might help. Let him splash around in the water and have fun .

If nothing else works....
' 1 drop of codliver oil' mixed well into their food, but no more than that. A little bit is good, more is not so good.

Is he drinking enough?

lovezebs thank you for your answer.

He is not drinking a lot comparably to Batman, but nothing has changed, earlier that was the same .

I sprayed him with water, cause he hasn't bath for longer time (on the same time Batman loves to bath). Today he wasn't content with this spray-bath.

I added oil to seed and after that he pooped. But I have an impression that he has got swollen abdomen. And he is fluffy.

And he doesn't like fruits unfortunately, only vegetables, greens. But I added to apple vinegard to water 8)

Vet tested poop and he didn't find any parasite or bacteria. That's good. But... what is wrong with Balbino?
Allergy, digestion system failure ? :(

Koko

Sorry, I'm not sure if I understand....

You mean he is not a rescued bird, or did he pass away?

Yes, I am thinking that there must have been sth else too. Earlier , three weeks ago I think, he had got constipation and after water with apple vinegar it have been ok. Vet hasn't find anything in poops (two tests).
And several days ago he have got constipation again. But then also enlarged abdomen had occurred.
I have given him the crumbled oatmeal with vit. A drop and cod liver oil drop, celery and a little bit coco chips. Water with apple vinegar. And he have been in a hospital cage. Last day he haven't got strength to fly, he have been drinking less. Afterthtat he has got a paralysis in one leg and in two legs after a while... And it have been the end after couple of minutes... He couldn't have take a breath in the last moment.

Batman looks like a specimen of health. Any symptoms. I hope it's true he is healthy.

I'm sorry he had to suffer, and I'm sorry you had to watch him suffer.
I know that helpless feeling, when there is nothing you can do to help them.

From what you describe, I'm thinking some sort of intestinal obstruction, maybe a tumor of some sort. Poor little guy.

I hope Batman doesn't get too lonely.

Thank you for compassion. It was terrible to watch on his last moments. And I was then still thinking "what I could do to him else, what else?" And I was looking some answer here... despite the fact I knew I don' find and I can't...

Batman have been vowing in the morning and looking for Balbino. When I returned from job he even enjoy. It was his habit to enjoy, to sing on my return.
And in the evening we bought a zebra finch for his companionship. Now the new zebra finch is in a small cafe for quarantine. Today I go to vet for Ivermectin.

I'm glad that you picked up a new companion for Batman.

It's a always a good idea to quarantine new birds, just to stay safe, so keeping them seperate is a good thing.

I'm sorry that you couldn't find the answers you were looking for over here. Sadly, we are not Veterinarians, just bird owners like you. Sometimes we can help, other times we can not :( .

Good luck with your new bird, and I hope that Batman will like him :)

I totally agree with you. But even veterinarians, where I live at least, often don't know how to cure such small birds. And it's understable for me, cause it's difficult for ex to take a smear from finches.

Should I wait 2 weeks and 3 dozes of Ivermectin to relate birds? Maybe longer?

I would wait for at least 2 weeks, just to make certain that your new bird is fine.

Regarding the medication, I'm not sure what the instructions are for the Ivermectin. I use SCATT, which is applied topically to the back of the neck twice at 21 day intervals, but I think the Ivermectin is different. I would follow the instructions on the bottle, or whatever the Veterinary told you.

Of course, we will be patient and waiting 2 weeks. The Veterinary told me to aplicate 1drop on neck of each bird. And only once more, there is no need to repeat. And I did it rofay.

Should I give them sth special to eat during this time, after Ivermectin?

For 3 days I will disinfect cages once more.
