It very well could be living off its yolk sac, but feeding should begin within the next day or so. Dead babies are generally deposited somewhat away from the nest, at least from what I've seen. (Then again, my observations of tossing came from my cannibalistic society finch, so probably not the best model of typical behavior.)

Well, sad day in the birdroom. My one hatchling that was tossed and I saved, surprisingly died. Found him dead in the nest this morning. It really seemed to be doing well. It died on the 6th day. This pair was young, and it was their first clutch, so hopefully they learned alot. So some advice please. Should I just leave their nest as is, or empty it out and let them start a new one? They're already back spending alot of time in it. Should I provide more nesting material in case they want to do some home improvements? Anyone have any advice, other than giving them a good healthy diet to get them started again? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanx.
