new RCCB babies

Post by Trisha » Thu Jul 06, 2017 8:56 am

I am lucky to have 4 new RCCB babies. Their parents are so good and have taken such good care of them. One fledged a week ago and the other 3 came out the next morning. Sally came over in the afternoon to band them for me. 2 are a lot smaller than their siblings and could not fly. I was really worried they might be deformed or something. They could hop around the cage but not fly. I made a nest for them and they found it and slept in it at night for several days. I added several layers of perches so when they could fly maybe it would be easier for them to make it up to the top. I have the big Prevue F030 flight cage. (2 of them).. The older babies stayed at the top and weren't moving around much for a couple of days too but yesterday one finally flew down to the cage floor and was investigating. One of the runts made it to the top yesterday and this morning the 2nd runt has made it half way up so I am feeling much better about them. I waited to post until I knew they would be ok. I'm glad their parents continued to feed them...

Trisha

Sounds like your two tiny tots left the nest a little too early :D .

Glad to see they discovered your little DIY nest.

They look adorable Trisha.

Thanks Elana. Their siblings were quite a bit bigger than them. I'm just glad they survived and are ok!

They were the tiniest things when I banded them! CB babies are so adorable anyway, and these guys are just precious! Glad to hear that they are getting around a bit more. It is always worrisome when they don't fly much at first, but I think these little ones just left the nest a bit early.
