Bird room in progress

Post by Barbara » Sun Jul 09, 2017 7:16 pm

Well I didnt want to post my progress in doing my bird room to Bettys post, but if you have read hers she has inspired me to start mine, she has also been geting lots of great ideas.I have 26 finches and 1 canary that will be going in a 12X12 room that was filled with 7 F030.3 were connected in pairs and one seperate. These cages will not go thru the doorway so they have to be emptied and taken apart. I am moving all birds in smaller flight cages.so far I have moved 5 birds and 3 cages,I have been just lining them up in my living room.Birds dont seem to mind.I have 4 cages left with society and waxbills.Cant wait till I can start seting room up for them, floors and walls are all done from moving them in a while back clear plastic is tacked already from before also, its about 3/4 up the wall and I think that is as far up I am going for now.The walls are painted with a washable satin paint so I think it will be fine.I have my blue night lights strung already around the room so there is quite a bit of the hardest work already done.I plan on wiping walls and of couse washing floor before I start bringing in trees ohh and washing my window from the inside one last time .I have the tilt in ones so hubby will have to wash the ouside on the ladder. :D well this is it for now but will keep you posted of the progress as I go.The picture is what the room looked like with all the cages.wish me luck

Yes !!! I would have to say getting the birds out of the room is the most unenjoyable part. The rest is sooooo much fun ! Can't wait for the next update !!

lem2bert yup that part is the worst so far but your right the planning has been fun so I'm sure working on the actual room is going to pretty neat,Today while I was out I stoped at home depot they have the sand in there I think it was around $4 so I bought 4 bags they have tons of it so if I need more I know where to get it.I figure why pay the xtra money for potting soil just looking for something I can keep wet for the trees to try to get the longest I can out of the leaves.and maybe the birds will take a sand bath.I always see the little sparrows doing that in the yard across the street.at least I know if they decide to get into it there is no chemicals in play sand.enjoy your birds

Well I managed to move sixteen society into a smaller flight cage, and take down there double F030 cages, room is almost empty only have 2 more F030 cages to take apart not sure if waxbills are going to be as easy to move there are 6 little ones to try to convience to go int a smaller cage,if not I will have to work around those cages and they will be the first ones to fly free.By thusday I am thinking the fun begins with staring to hang feeders and lights

Oh Yeah, planning is the most fun !!! You have a lot of good ideas, so I cannot wait to the your progress.... :) . I like the idea of the fountain grass ! Once you get the birds in there you can decide more of what they need. Good idea getting the hard stuff done first :) If you need help with getting the waxbills out of the cage let me know maybe I can help ! Have fun !!!

I'm just sitting here, living vicariously through your activity, still at that stage where I'm frozen by fear of the overwhelming aspect of it all :-SS :-SS :-SS

I have to admit, I'm a terrible chicken when it comes to taking the leap and then following it through to the end.

I'm always full of "what if's..."

 you are too funny !! Try not thinking about the whole process take it one step at a time. I would say that first step was the hardest (moving the cages) I lived in total chaos for 3 weeks with cages stacked three deep in my living room moving them to clean cages and give fresh food and water every day. Every room in my house had something stored in it that did not belong there !!! But it was all worth it !! I love sitting in that room watching my birds fly around. It really cuts the work load in half and gives you more time to enjoy your birds. A couple of my male Gouldians dive bomb me sometimes when I am in there cleaning. I love it !! :D

Betty is right the more I have been doing the more I am motivated to work longer,Elana I have cages from my living room into my kitchen(and I hate birds in the kitchen) I am pooped and am siting in my living room and all the birds are chirping away It is so cool, dont think we'll be hearing tv tonight :D I did manage to get the 6 waxbills to go into a smaller cage to eat there vegies this morning works every time ,they all will do anything for millett and morning breakfast they were all such good birdies.Any way room is empty then I had another boost when hubby came home for lunch he rehung the blue night light and all the flouresant light and we worked on the rack in the corner and then in the window,I think if hubby works around town we may go cut the trees tomorrow,Then I still need to hang feeders and bring in my froggy bird bath thats outsid well here are a few pictures, sorry they came out sidways thought I figured that out ,so not sure why that happened but I am tired #-o

Oh Barbara, you are doing a great job !! Are you having trees in those three pots in that corner ? The three feeding stations look great !! What a great way to recycle old cages !!! =D> The big stool with the clay pot on it ....is that for fresh food ? Have you decided on the fountain grass ? Cannot wait for the next update.

lem2bert thanks Betty I didnt have a shelf to hang the rack like your but we hung it with hooks so I can lift it right off to fill tubes or change out perches.I plan on puting three in that corner and two or three in the other depending how big they are and Yes the tray I found that at a fle market in town for $20 lots of birdies feeding just one big tray to wash in my tub or outside instead of 5 or six sounds easier allready yes I did buy the pot of fountain grass its out on the deck geting nice and wet during all this rain.Maybe we can get it ready tonight put trees in in the morning if we can get it done early enough I would let them all out of there little cages tomorrow if it ends up being too late I'll have to do it friday. Thanks for convincing me to do it .I am almost done =D>

What fun! I would love to do this. My second bedroom is my bird room, birds all in flight cages, but now that I am thinking of moving, I don't want to change anything now. Next house, maybe.

I think Betty and Barbara just might be starting a new trend on the Forum....

Before we know it, cages might be a thing of the past =D> =D> =D>

I did it three years ago girls! They are a lot of fun. I miss mine!

I would not do branches in water buckets though, I think a bird could fall in and drown. I mounted branches stripped of their leaves and then attached silk flowers to them. If you cut up the silk flowers and tie them onto the branches in small clumps it can look very natural, and it doesn't die.

I'd sometimes bring in fresh branches and let them pick the leaves until they dried up though and that was a hit.

Live potted palm trees also were great. They'd have survived if I didn't have budgies which tore them to shreds, but I resigned to buying a new one every 3 months or so for them as a long-lasting toy.

What a beautiful bird room you had !!! I love the look of all the real plants in front of that lovely window. When the leaves fall off the trees the artificial plants look really nice. Very nice pictures !! :) .

It is a non stop job once you get the birds and cages out of the room, but you worked hard and the room is coming along nicely !! Cannot wait to see it all finished. :)
