I think my zebra thinks it's a society finch :)

Post by Fraza » Sun Aug 27, 2017 3:33 pm

My zeb female was bright up by society's with no other zebras and now she's older and has her male with her she was paired with him on the cage with no other society's there but now she's in the aviary she's gone back to the society's when they all go sleep she snuggles into the bed with the society's and not with her mate :) she still interacts with him and makes a nest and sits on the eggs when it's her turn however she still pulls grass with all the society's feeds with them and eats with them I'm wondering if you can have two zeb female with one male withought fighting like society's ?

Maybe but a roll of the dice. Zebras are aggressive birds.
3 and 5 are generally a bad number of birds to house, as the odd one out may get picked on.

If you want her to breed well with the male you selected for her, you should keep them separated from the societies. Because that will confuse the chicks. You want the chicks to be zebras, and not think they are societies like their mom.

I had to do this because her parents attacked her when she was with them so I put her in with my society's that had chicks of the same age I put her in the nest and they fed her with there chicks and now she's older thinking she's a society's I found it funny

Not so bad as a male who thinks he is a society.
I had one male that I left just a bit too long with his fosters, and he sang and called like a society. None of the zebras would respond to him. I would think that would be a problem trying to attract a mate.
