Sick gouldian might be recovering

I might just have a gouldian that is recovering from a illness. I have never had a sick gouldian that recovered from an illness. This bird is my best parent and it is normally difficult to get him off eggs or chicks. He felt so bad that he actually left his hen to incubate the eggs and then the chicks after they hatched. He just sat all puffed up and tried his best to get sun. Now he is back on the chicks. He must be feeling better I hope. He also might just be better due to fact that it is now slowly getting warmer. I treated against cocci and now I am giving a vitamin mix. I am just scared that I will find him dead on top of the chicks with them dead as well.

Just looking at him, he appears to be in good shape, so whatever you did, must have done some good.

Marius i thing his going to be fine.
As with any other bird when you see progress signs means that you've given the right meds and its working. i would separate him though and see if the female can feed the chicks, if not try to help them with formula otherwise the little guys might get sick too.
and man is he ever pretty. im dying for a red had gb like that.

I think he will be fine these finches are more tough than the look if he's able to get out the nest box and then fly back in he's fine

Birds can look great but carry disease/illness/internal parasites/protozoa. All of which can be passed to the young... what did you use to treat for cocci? Some treatments are not advised when you have young in the nest.... the one that is the safest is tri sulfa used for two weeks... will not upset gut flora and safe for young. It gets bacteria and cocci.

Cindy a quick question just because we are talking about cocci.
Would you recommend preventive treatment against cocci.
In Europe lots of European goldfinch breeders do. I'm just not very confident on doing that. Toltrazuril (baycox or endocox)is used the most. Thanks

cindy I used ESB3. It is save to use with chicks as well. I am currently giving electrolytes. I will start giving another cause of ESB3 this afternoon. It must be given for 3 days and then 10 days later later, for 3 days again.

The bird is definitely better. I watched him today and he is looking for a new nest. While I was watching him, he was trying to mate with his hen.

cindy I also have tri sulfa. I like to use tri sulfa, when I put my young birds in the juvy aviary. I would like to get Esb4, which is a lot better, but it is not available in my country.
