She was definitely a hen. Heres a front shot of her black beak. She must have bonded with a male prior to shipping to the pet store at that time.

The clear plastic on the carrier Im holding cast the blue on her head and her yellow very brightly in the sunlight. Making it even harder to have to rehome her. She was very vibrant.

To be honest I don't see this as a problem and what the problem is you saying they are using a nest good news right just that they haven't bred yet maybe they are both young and have been kept together so then they are in age they will be bonded if I was you I would be patient and see what happenes it's there nature to breed it's an instinct so they will eventually

Babs The reason she fooled me is because I have belly colour on my brain. I have been watching my juveline gouldians with a hawk eye. I have a pen and paper with me, and note down ring colours and a brief description of particular birds. I check for belly colour and off course birds that sing. If it sings, it is marked as a cock and if the belly colour is an intense yellow colour, I provisionally mark it as a cock. All the ones that have a bright yellow belly colour, have so far panned out to be a cocks, because they sing. Your hen with the bright yellow belly, gives me hope that I will have a few hens. At the moment it looks like I will have a few more cocks than hens, but there are a few have not yet started colouring up and that I have yet seen sing, so I have high hopes.

Babs Yes thx, you also bred a lot of very pretty gouldians. Though sometimes I feel it is 2 steps forward and 3 backwards especially with my blue gouldians. But I can't complain. I have bred in excess of 30 gouldians out of 4 pairs this year. Have also bred longtail Hecks, starfinches, parrotfinches, owlfinches, cherryfinches, red eared waxbills, goldenbreasted waxbills, canaries, diamond firetails and over a 100 society finches.

Babs I have 3 aviaries and I have very little. Some of my friends have more than 20 aviaries.
