Tri-color Javas?? A Look at the feathers.

I have no idea what I am going to end up with these guys. They sure are BIG babies in my hand.

The light one looks cream. The others are darker, but when their sheaths open its almost all dark fawn feathers. Very little black in the feathers.

Is there a tri-color Java finch out there? I've never seen a "pied" with 3 distinct colors.

Nothing too unique unfortunately - looks like normals split pied and a fawn to me, baby normal javas are brown. They become grey, black, and white after their first molt.
Some fledge with pale white cheeks while others have tan and won't get them until then.

Actually that is the BEST news I could have gotten! So. The darker ones will probably straighten out their tuxedo and look close to their (normal but slightly pied dad).

It's obvious I have a creme /or fawn chick. It was those two darker colors I was worried about. Thanks so much!

lovezebs maybe how a do for the chicks. I set them up on my pinky finger, and then they teeter and totter, flapping their wings, while I snap pics.

I think like zebras, they beg while doing a wing flap. But here it was for balance on my hand.

I don't know how to open there wings always feel although I will damage there wing do your open it holding the bottom of the wing or the starting near the body

They are holding out their wings on their own. They are trying to balance in my hand.

Javas have very long legs and I don't think they feel very secure with me holding them, so they stretch out their wings and flatten down.

I promise, I'm not stretching their wings out. ;)

Nice one Babs some nice Java chicks there, I'm not really into the mutations so couldn't possibly comment but hope they fledge ok,

I'm brand new to them too. Learning as I go along. I had to really look at lots of pictures of juveniles to understand that the "normal" colored chicks have these different variations of brown and gray.

Although pied, I do hope the darker chicks retain the more "normal" appearance without splotches.

Yeh because I've seen phtos online where people hold out there wings and show there feathers

Fraza......many of us have been doing this for years, it's nothing new, it's called confidence in holding yer birds and more importantly knowing how to handle yer birds

We do this when identifying and sexing some species of birds and show what to look for in the primary flights and secondary flights within the birds wing aswell as explaining and demonstrating in how to hold the birds, when you've handled literally hundreds of birds over many years this sort of becomes second nature

Stuart whiting Im quite comfident in holding them, cut there nails when they grow too long aswell just never knew where to hold them from on the wing

Glad to see this little guys are doing great
To me the two dark ones look very brown to be normals honestly. I don't remember my normals being that brown, so they could be fawn. The little guy is definitely a diluite or isabel
