Removing split bands

Post by Fraza » Sat Oct 14, 2017 4:26 am

I’ve got some finches that already have bands on and I need them off as a few have the same colours as mine that I’ve banded and need them all having there own for this year when they start to breed.

At the moment they have two in the ones I’ve put on and the ones they already have it’s just confusing when u see two bands and can’t remenver which is the one u put on and then I always have to go and get my chart

split plastic bands are easy to pop off using your nail you can separate the band opening up and bend the band to open further... may need help doing so.

You can also snip a bit away at a time with cuticle clippers.

careful not to put pressure on the leg itself, the legs can break easily.

Zebra, Gouldians, Java, CBM Shaft tail & Grasskeets

I am not sure if the photos are still up and working, but there was a step by step demo on how to take a band off.

Fraza sorry I also looked but I don't have the photos on my computer anymore. But basically to remove them is the same steps as to put them on, but in reverse. Only thing is to angle the tool away from their legs as you insert it or they strip off their skin.
