Re: White with Color faults or pied?
There are 6 babies, was 7 but one died. Umm what do you mean "smudged black head" the black you can see on its head is a wound that happened when it was in the nest. The nest box was a bit small for 7 babies.

Re: White with Color faults or pied?
I've had one with a smudged grey head, but it was from pied male and fawn female and it was a cfw . I don't think I've ever had one with smudged black head unless you think some of the babies do?

Re: White with Color faults or pied?
why i asked for that cuze as i said ,some cfw x hen outcomes will be white (or cfw) with smudged back giving confusion to be saddleback , the smudged back will be lost after the first molting, forgot to say it dad is also fawn

Re: White with Color faults or pied?
Right, basically saddle backs are not a stand - alone mutation,
They are a form of pied mutation,
Some saddle backs have a patch on the head,
To tell the difference visually between cock and hen is that cocks have a red beak whereas hens beaks are orange,
Incidentally the mother which is pictured with the saddle back father as far as I can see looks very much to be a fawn hen which are sex linked,
The youngster is very highly likely to be a saddle back

Ok thank you, I did know about beak thing and sex-linked mutations but I get stuck with genes and what the results are when putting 2 dif colors together. Thank you for your reply!

Re: White with Color faults or pied?
It stayed white with Speckles , definitely not CFW.haroun wrote: hi and welcome to the forum
can we get a pic of the dad . this is usually normal case when we breed a cfw with fawn hen the smudged feathers in the back will disappear , this little could be a cfw pied hen

Re: White with Color faults or pied?
see you other post... not sure about the CFW maybe the parents carry other mutations, Dad might be a FF or Isabel with OB maybe BB also and he may be combined with pied... it is messing with the pattern. Pied makes the bird white. See your other post for three pictures of mine that show the pattern.
