Sexing hex finches ?am unsure if I have two males

Bought these two heck’s when it was Christmas I think and I bought them as a pair and yeh they act like on built a nest preen each other whistle etc but I have a feeling they are both males as I haven’t seen any mating and they look identical I heard one shud have a slim black patch and one shud have a thicker one but I’m unsure can someone help me plz thanks


Only difference is one has a slim red beak and one has a beak like an female zeb (orange beak )

you need to get a picture looking straight at them when not hunched over and buffed up in a guarded position, they throat puff out the bib so a hen can look like a male if feeling threatened...

Creamino is a hen notice in a relaxed state the bib is small tear drop shaped with rounded edges.

bird in the middle is a gray mutation shaft tail male

gray mutation male in the back, fawn female in the front

gray male notice the sharper edges, more a triangle shape that extends to the side of the neck

THIs is the one with the red long beak the one I was guessing is a male it’s so hard to identify because it’s my first pair of it was society’s id be like yep it’s a boy/girl haha

Here’s orange the pic of them together the one on the left is the orange beak I had to do a recording with flash on because they kept moving so pictures abit blurry

No it seems to be pretty hard to tell them apart. And that's what this sites for! To learn more about your birds!

need to go back into my old computer... I have a comparison and it includes when hens throat buff, bluff when alarmed... there are some of these examples in older posts of mine, will see if I can find them for you. To me the second one looks a bit alarmed.

Males the bibs look more triangular and the bottom edges extend more to the sides. Hens have a more rounded appearance.
