Re: Society, spice, gouldian, or star? Which species to choo
I cannot speak on spice or star finches, but I do have society's and gouldians. The gouldians are beautiful, mellow, and occasionally sing, but they have given me a lot more anxiety because they are not as hardy as my society's. Prone to air sac mites. My society's are all very cute and silly with their own personalities. They are more low maintenance and are louder than my gouldians. I'd recommend either!

Re: Society, spice, gouldian, or star? Which species to choo
I currently have a pair of Gouldian, pair of Star and a pair of Society sharing a flight cage. The Gouldian are definitely the alpha of the bunch, with the male acting like a bully for 5 minutes each morning to show the others who's is the boss (pursuing them, claiming the best branch and food station, etc.) then going back at tolerating them for the rest of the day. He never did anything too agressive to any other bird, so I have not separate the species yet. The female Gouldian looks more like the aristo of the bunch, doing nothing to antogonize the other birds, but definitely not caring about them either. Both Gouldian are the most nervous of the 6 birds.
Society Finch are so cute and lively. Not the most pleasing songsters, but definitely fun to watch, always the first to take their bath and try the greens and fruits I give them.
The Star Finch are my favorite. They are inquisitive toward me, have splendid plumage and are great to watch while they interract. I plan to separate my pair to try breeding them, since the male has started wooing the female quite actively. I highly recommend them, they are a great choice!

Currently caring for two Javan, two Gouldian, two Society, two Star, two Cutthroath, three canaries... One Siamese Fighting Fish and about sixty-ish plants around the house.
Previously kept cockatiels, budgies and one lovely Barred Parakeet, plus small mammals and fish since I was a kid.
