mickp - how many birds will you be able to put in your new aviary? Where do you keep the birds you have now and how many do you have? Sorry, just curious :)

By the way - your project is looking great!

wow that looks so great. I know you can keep ALOT of birds in there. Looks wonderful.....

I know alot of people do not like to enter their aviary especially when birds are breeding. But I just LOVE walking into mine and standing and looking closely at my bird. The goulds don't seem to mind at all. They don't even fly away.

until the plants have grown and provide the birds with some extra privacy from each other am think I will keep numbers in this aviary at 20 - 25 pairs. other than more gouldians would love a few more australian finches. especially the beautiful firetail and the red eared firetail.

finally got all that excess dirt out which makes the aviary look bigger. started on the section that will join the two aviaries together, back wall is on and front frame in place, 30mm out of square in two spots but to late to change (or should that be I cant be bothered lol). managed to get a few plants in as well, posted pics of those in a different section.
waiting for another pay day now so I can get the remaining materials that are needed. more wire, hinges, alsynite for roof, more plants and some wire for the climbing plants to grow up on

those two species of firetail's cost $1500 per pair here in australia, so it will be a while before I can afford either :(

that link you put up had a couple of nice pics on it Ray.
there is a yellow painted available but I dont have any, nor any pics

Beautiful firetails, and your aviary is looking great! How nice it will be for the birds to have so much room.

watering system is now 80% complete. have a 13mm line in the roof where the wire & tin meet, this will be used as a misting spray during hot weather. the second line is for watering all the plants.
have one more line to put in. it will be used for the birds drinking & bath dishes.
the taps for these lines are outside the main aviary so I dont have to disturb the birds at all.
cost all up has been just under $50(Australian) for 40m of 13mm pipe plus the taps, joiners and sprays.
most of the pipe will be buried about 50mm, just to help get that more natural look.
