contol of poop going outside the cage

Post by ac12 » Wed Mar 11, 2009 6:48 pm

I finally figured out something that had been puzzling me.
When the finches poop, it jets out. So it goes several inches from the perch they are sitting on. That's how it was getting on the floor and bookshelf.

Now I'm beginning to understand the use of a shower curtain on the back of the cage. I'm also going to have put it around the side as well. :-(
I temporarily put an old towel around the cage until I can get a sheet of plastic to go around the cage.

Well at least you don't get it on your head...... Several times when I have been putting fresh paper down under the rope swing that mine love so much in the aviary, I have got it right on the head.

I have learned to run them all off when I am doing that.

I got the vinyl from Wal-Mart too (after reading about it on here) - the thinnest most economical thickness. I taped it to the top bar and around the sides of the double-stacked cages. Works great for keeping the poops off the walls and much less on the floor.

I also use clear vinyl sheeting....works great and is very clear to see through....unless of course it has poop all over it!

I got a roll of clear vinyl in the paint department at Home Depot, except it really isn't very clear at all, you can just see shadows thru it. Turns out it works OK, as I have some cages back-to-back, and this way, the birds in one cage can't see the ones in the other cage.
