Thoughts on this cage?

Has anyone seen this cage before? It's a Treetops Bird Habitat.

I've kept finches outdoors in a large aviary years ago but after several moves had to sell everything. Now, I'm thinking of getting a pair of gouldians and a cage for inside and saw this one. Never kept my finches in a small cage like this, so I'm looking for advice. Any thoughts would be appreciated. The size is: 23" w x 18" d x 23" high. One thing I noticed was that because the wire is only on the sides, I'd have to run the perches width wise. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated!

Hi Eddie, I think the glass sides would get messy on the inside and need frequent cleaning (every day) to keep the view clear... and pretty.

I also think it's a bit small and are there 2 food/water dishes? If you're in California (presuming from your ID name), you should be able to find a 30x18x18 cage for a very decent price. I've had several of those shipped to me from California. They come with 4 food/water dishes and you can hang extra if needed inside too. You would be able to attach nestboxes when you are ready as well; but not on the one you show above.

Just my two cents worth... err make that 1.5 cents.

Not nearly long enough can't fly ,but with perchs like that they don't have to,I think its way to small

Hook bills don't need as much room to fly as they climb a lot

B Camp and Liz, thanks for the advice. I agree, it might be too small and the perch situation is no good. And I didn't even think about the upkeep on the clear siding. All the mess might be too much to keep looking sharp each day.

I agree with summer, it is a very cute cage. But not near large enough for finches. If you purchase a pair of gouldian and want them to be happy, you will be a much larger cage for them.

It is a very pretty cage, but not too practical. I agree with Liz, you should be able to find 30x18x18 cages in California, as most of them are made in China and shipped to California. 30x18x18 would work for one pair of Gouldians.

Sorry ...but I think it's awful.The manufacturer is aiming at a market of inexperienced bird keepers who are looking for the 'cute' factor.
Please remember finches are active little birds that need lots of exercise to stay healthy.
By all means try to buy a cage that will fit in with your decor...after all you have to live with it.But if you are keeping finches you also have a responsibility to provide the longest cage possible to give them a proper life.Length is the important factor with two perches as far apart as possible to use their wings.
A cage like that is fine for budgies...but even then,only if they are allowed out for exercise.Finches also need privacy sometimes and the goldfish bowl look isn't sensible when the birds have no feeling of security.

I think it could be a great cage. I can hear all of your comments already "he's lost the plot, micks crazier than usual"

But I truly believe that it could be a great cage with a few modifications. firstly make the back of the cage white and have a perch that goes from the front to the back. there you have it, a perfect cage to put your bird into for a couple of minutes while you try for the impossible perfect photo

The cage is ok for a transportation or show cage but other than that I don't personally think there is enough room for the birds to fly. They would probably just hop from one perch to the other.
The smallest cage I would entertain permanently is a breeding cage (3ft wide x 2ft x 2ft) and then for max 4 birds.
