My aviary - various pics

So first one is of the main aviary now with extension added:-

Second view is from the main area looking out into the extension. It looks like there are lots of branches in the way but they're not!

This is the roof in the main area where they all roost at night. I put natural branches up there too

This is the floor in the main area where the quails house is and the sand tray for dusting in the sunshine. Notice the little walk through for the quails.

This is looking out and down into the extension

This is the same area but from outside and where I have put their baths

This is a shelf inside the main area where I put their grit and egg food in small bowls

This is the box on the outside of main area where my birds secretly have babies tucked around the corner

One of my lovely pied zebra's

This is supposed to be the quails water - just look at them!

One of my society's drinking from the bunny bottle

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil!

Bath time for some of them!

And feeding time!

I have had this aviary for about 2 years now with great success at raising babies so I must be doing something right

I think you should clean your aviary everyday! Looks a little bit dirty to me. Those droppings look really creepy

I think this aviary is in the UK. It's winter in the UK right now, but I imagine that when the weather warms up it will be getting a good hosing down.

Thanks for the comments - yes they stay outside all year

it snowed a lot this year for the first time in years and they were all ok

I can count on one hand the number of really warm months we have here in the UK unfortunately.

I did the 3 owls for you Feather

thought you'd like them

Once a year I give the aviary a good scrub down but as you can imagine I get covered in the stuff so don't look forward to this job

When the weather is warmer and staying dry I will attempt a "hose down". The birds will appreciate it too

No surprise there.

I think that was my favorite picture also.

Lovely place for the birds! I agree it could use a good cleaning

But as you said, you must be doing something right and I LOVE it when people are able to keep their birds out of a cage. Great set up!

Readingfc--beautiful birds and nice setup. You say they stay outside all year round, even the Owls? How do you keep them warm during all those cold days, especially with snow? Do you have a heating system in there or wrap the aviary in plastic? Do tell.

Yes, all of them stay outside, even the owls!
We put see through plastic sheeting on all the open sides of the aviary to keep the cold wind and the rain out. I've yet to take one side off because even though we've had some nice days here so far it still gets a bit chilly at night. That will be coming off in April sometime.

So just the sheeting is enough, or do you have some kind of heat lamp inside? From what I have read, the main thing is getting them acclimated to the cooler temps, and keeping them protected from wind and drafts.

How have you attached the clear plastic sheeting? With screws, nails, staples? Am I correct in seeing you also used the plastic for your addition's roof as well?
