havet managed to achieve much in the last couple of weeks, well it doesnt feel like much.
the roof is now finished, put the wire on yesterday. the wire I used is galvanised and 12mm x 12mm and 2mm thick.
finished the front of the aviary wire today. just have two small sections of wire left to install. 1st section is 3m x 1m and 2nd is 1.5m x 1m a couple more hours work :D .
the watering system is complete and even works without any leaks in the pipe. the tap is in place ready for another pipeline to be put in for the birds drinking & bath water.
a couple more climbing plants have been put in as well.
still have some doors to make and install (2 off) plus the feed station access doors. storage area floor has to be dug out and concreted.
then the worst parts of the whoe job begin. cleaning up the mess I have made in the yard and waiting till august to put birds into their new home.
will try to get a couple of new pics tomorrow

Awesome Aviary......
Does the 2mm wire keep the dingos out?

Here in the states you couldn't keep the foxes away from a coop that size :!:

my faithful old mutt keeps all unwanted animals & birds away from the backyard. when she spots a bird in the back yard she stalks it like a cat would. does catch the occasional one :D

stands for the water dishes are made, just need plumbing up.

to attach the wire I used tek screws. they are self drilling with a hexagonal head on them so that either a spanner or socket can be used to install them, I have an attachement that goes into my power drill to make it even easier. costs about $60A for 500 of them, have used approx 1500 so far

hi mick,

really enjoying watching your progress. i'm also really impressed at how you have resisted temptation to have more, smaller aviaries and went for fewer, larger ones.

its my opinion that birds are more enjoyable to watch in a bigger space and you have certainly created that! just be sure to put a bench seat in there so you can sit back and enjoy your creation.

good plant choices. landscaping the aviary is my favorite part.
6 red-billed firefinches
4 orange-breasted waxbills
3 red-cheeked cordon bleu's
2 saint helena waxbills
1 strawberry avadavat

Fantastic aviary well done,
i thought mine was big until i saw your 1st pics

I love the landscaping bit, in our old place i had a large aviary with a waterfall and stream in it and it was such a focus for all the birds coming down to bathe and drink.

You got room for some fab ideas there, and being so patient.... waiting
you could have room there for a fab collection of birds.

Lovely set-up Mike. :D I would love to have an outdoor aviary, but here in Quebec it is either too cold or too hot. Guess I'll just have to admire everyone's set-up from afar.

Or, maybe once I reach retirement I'll move to Florida with the rest of the Quebecer's.
