oh I sift my sand too for my crabs, otherwise there's big rocks and stuff lol. Ok I'll have to show John, instead of 1 2x2 in the middle we'll just put 2 with a tiny gap and it should work ok with a little groove in the floor too. such good ideas! thanks everyone

Oh, I'm not really jealous Ken! Trying to convey playful jesting    on a message board can be difficult...I enjoy seeing any and all photographs of all types of set ups and can hope to achieve some sort of equal someday.

hi plantsandbirds
sorry jealous may have been the wrong choice of word...i know sometimes we all get carried away with our own birds etc...me more so as it took me so long to build these cages due to my disability that i am really proud of them ..not taking anything away from anyone else and the way they have made their birds happy in there cages and aviarys that everyone has built

Ken, you should be proud of that lovely set-up! It's marvelous :P ....and you keep everything so clean and tidy.

I like the drawers that you've put at the base of the system.

well this is the week people! I go to the butcher, I mean dentist on Thursday and after he attempts to empty my bank account I'm going to go buy some supplies! I'm so excited! Of COURSE it's snowing here now so it's too cold to stain the wood though :( I'll probably buy the mesh and wall board and other things I don't need to stain then I'll buy the wood when the weather warms up. Sam and Andie are starting to get a little annoyed with their babies, I've noticed them chasing them around a little bit so I'm going to have to get this thing built sooner than later :? the nice thing is, I just quit my 2nd job so I now have Thursday - Saturday off so once I get started it shouldn't take more than a few days to finish. I get my last paycheque from the old job on Friday so I think I'm going to use it for aviary materials, I was going to get my hair cut, but honestly the birds need a new home more than I need a hair cut, and besides it hasn't quite been a year since it was last cut
Kenny, one question about your little grooves in the floor, can the button quail hop over those? I thought about that yesterday, my button quail might get stuck on one side of the divider. I might just put a slit in the front and not a groove in the floor.

:P I'm the same way! Those salons are too expensive!
Great news about the materials and I'm sure we all here want to see the progress!

Thats too funny! I did the same thing. I used to get a haircut regularly but since I started this new hobby, I'd much rather take that money and spend it on my babies! I told my self I didn't need any new clothes either so I could put the money into the aviary! Now I just need to pay off that credit card..... Ah, the things we do for our birds....

Too true! I'm a shoe freak (my husband has called me Imelda Marcos!) but ever since we got the birds I've stopped going to the shoe stores & go to the pet store instead!

get your haircut and save on nesting material....my quail had no problem with the wood where the grooves are they are 2 inches high and they regularly walked up and down and stepped over them quite easy....there is a nother thing...they like to walk in a straight line e.g.along the back of the cages so if you put a grit pot or seed pot in there way they took ages to decide to walk round it they do this even in the aviary the pnly way i can tempt them into the middle is with mealworms

lol I'll get the haircut after the birds and the dentist. Honestly, I keep my bangs trimmed so it doesn't look that bad! When I got it cut last year I knew it'd be a while before the next cut so I had them hack it off way up near my jaw line, so it's only just past my shoulders now.
It's good to know your quail can get over the grooves. I'll also remember that about straight lines I'll put their shelters on the edges so they'll use them.
Thanks so much for all the opinions and such, I'm getting really excited about how nice my aviary will turn out!
