Emergency! Gouldian lost her nail.

Post by HoangQuan » Sat May 02, 2009 9:48 am

I just noticed that one of my gouldian has just lost her nail. First of all, I saw blood on the perch and her belly, and I was freaked out, thought there might be rat or smthing attack again, but not, when I looked closer, I saw one of her nail lost and the blood came from that finger. So maybe she's been stucked in smwhere and hurted herself.
She seemed not so bad, can still swing and fly and look fine(not panic, not pluffy), now she's standing on the open of a nest with one leg and look at me. I am so worry for her, about the blood she lost with that nail...But I dont know what to do next, should I take her out and clean the finger, then put her in a small, warmer cage and wait for tomorrow?
I need your advises, as soon as possible. :(

Aw poor finch. Seeing blood on the perches and bird can be upsetting (I know first hand). But I think you pretty well answered your question - put her in a smaller hospital cage for at least a day to watch her and put a heat lamp on there too. Maybe some vitamins in her water. If it is still bleeding, you can put some QuikStop on the end or if you don't have that - use some flour and hold it on for a minute to make sure it adheres to stop the bleeding. If it already stopped, I wouldn't bother cleaning it as it may start bleeding again.

Do keep us posted about her.
