This bird has been weaned for at least three months.
In fact the parents have since had another clutch and they are weaned also

I have never crop fed a bird this old. Do you mean with a syringe and tip? I have thrive and formula. I must admit I am a little nervouse to do this, but willing to try whatever to save him.

Oh.. :/ So probably not a failure to thrive instance then.

I mean by using a syringe and a gauged crop needle (you need 18 gauge for finches).
You wouldn't be able to do it with just a syringe or a pipet (they are too large).

I've been reading this thread and I find that with my gouldians some molt faster and some slower. But given time all will molt provided they are not born late in the year otherwise as fall sets in they will be stuck in a molt till the following year.

As for the bird being sickly I've had some relly look bad with feathers puffed and having diarrhoea. At times I think it's going to die but to my suprise with patience they have all made it thru. Given 1-2 weeks the chicks will get better and look less puffed, less lethargic and look much better. The only time I've had a problem is when the juvenile is infected with something than it's a problem and the gould will likely die.

Give it time in most cases it will be ok.

Chris

He made it through the night, but still not holding much hope. He is obviously drinking and eating something or he would be dead already.

He is staying at the bottom of the cage and sleeping. He doesn't have strength to fly and only hops around a little bit.

I really hate watching him so sick and was very tempted to have my husband to put him down this morning. We are going to see how things are when we get home today.

Poor little blighter. I hate it when I don't know what's wrong or what they really need. But you never know - miracles do happen. :)

My heart goes out to you Donna. It is so hard to see them in need and don't know how to fix them. I sure hope he pulls through.

I came home today from work fully expecting him to be dead.....but all I can say is he is a little fighter. He is no better.....sitting on the bottom of the cage with hardly no strength at all.

Obviously he is eating and drinking something in order to stay alive this long. I gave him some soaked millet and sprinkled some thrive on it tonight We will se in the morning if he makes it through the night

I really doubt that he will......

He is gone......
I decided this morning it was time to put him down. He was so weak that he could not hold up his head....... was not able to move from me when I touched him and had lost the fight of being so strong.

Gosh.... I hated it! It is sad to see them suffer and I couldn't come to work today and leave him home like that......

You did the best you could and you did the right thing in the end. I'm sorry, Donna. :(
