Color for Bird House (inside)

Hi Everyone -

We are finally at that stage of building our bird house. The green board will be finished in a few days (mudding).

What colors do you like or have experience with? Go light to help reflect the light? Use a certain color to mock their environment?

I would like to hear everyone's opinion or experience.

I vote for either a light blue or light green color.

I'd go with green walls and blue ceiling as you say to mimick their environment

I say paint it whatever color you like best. Us humans are the only ones that really appreciate color

I don't think the color really affects the birds..... i mean after all they have been kept in either chrome, brass, or bamboo cages for centuries. Some in wood box breeders or white box cages.
Something that compliments the birds you keep and something not too dark

Any colors so long as its natural colors.

I would then choose maybe a light brown for the walls or a dark/light green and transition to a blue in the ceiling.

I agree with Candnce, pick a color you like since your the one who will have to look at it all the time.

The birds won't mind. I just always make sure it's a light color to help brighten the bird house a bit.

Thank you every one for your opinions.

I'm still not sure at the moment. I wanted a color to help keep the room bright. The windows are large and there will be lights, but the bird house is right in the middle of the woods! Well the woods are on three sides - I'm thinking of cutting some trees down!

My husband is not in agreement with me!

I'll post some pictures this weekend.

Coming from someone whose bird room is composed of light colored walls, I would personally suggest considering something dark or a dark neutral color like light brown or dark beige.
I know when we move into a new place, this is definitely the direction I'll take and hopefully this photo explains why..

It doesn't matter that the cages are off the wall, the birds shake after drinking, or eating, etc., and sometimes shoot poo bombs out the cage, I dunno - somehow they crap on the walls.. it eludes me exactly how.. but yeah..
I wish our walls had been painted darker so that staining was minimal.
Particularly the base boards..

Good point Tiffany.

My bird room right now has cloth shower curtains hanging up behind all the cages. So, I take these down to wash monthly and now I don't have to wash the walls all the time.

But I don't want to do this in their new bird house which will have nothing but large flight aviaries.

Just my 2 cents, but actually Tiffany posting the picture gave me a great idea for colours. I am imagining how colourful she would look if the background had been either aa pastel apple green, or a pastel sky blue.

I think it would really show off their colours.

You could do a textured wall like sponging using some white, green, black and other assorted colors. You won't even be able to tell there's poop on the wall.

The only problem I see with that is...... you don't know it is there and yuck it can get pretty nasty. I would rather be able to see it so I can clean it. I am a neat freak and that kind of stuff bugs me.

My poor new painted finches like to scour on the floor and I think I drive them crazy keeping it so clean......

On the sunroom aviary I put up 9' sheets of formica counter material. It is in a grey portigo marble pattern in a matte finish (matches the floor & stucco) and wipes clean...just like your countertops

I glued it on the plywood backing of the aviary and then covered the seams with painted 2 x 4 's that matched the rest of the frame. (you could just glue it to the walls) Two screen doors with wire replacing the screen are at either end. Convient to access either end. It is a costly way to go but since this is actually in my house I wanted something that was easy to clean and looked nice. And it also cordinates with the island counter top when you walk into the kitchen.
I tried to post a picture to show the aviary.... it is surrounded by red throat parrot youngsters and the new parrot finches still in quarintine.... so you have to look past all the cages
