Tar baby is a black face. His grandfather is a blackface but I never could find a female. The only reason I had him was because I was at a bird fair one time and there was this young zebra...his beak was still black he was so young. Puffy and not happy. He had what looked like a vertical black magic marker line on his tummy. I asked the seller what he was and she looked at me like I was stupid and said a regular young zebra.I paid $10.00 for him. My friend that was with me died laughing that I would pay 10.00 dollars for a baby zebra when I had 100's at home. I told her that I wasn't sure but there was something different about this chick. Sure enough as he started to color out the black line got wider and wider, his face turned black and it was a beauty. My friend never questioned my instinct again. I bred that bird with a regular grey. Then with others. Got mostly small amount of black or charcoal grey. Tar Baby is the first to look like granddaddy. His parents were a Charcoal..kind of like Smudge and a grey hen.
