Hello finch forum! It's been a while since I posted here. Now that fair weather has arrived, I've been plunking my (sparrow) bird's cage out in the backyard when I'm out there. She just seems to love it out there, but I can't leave the cage unattended. I've decided that I'd like to build her a small aviary. I'm not exactly brilliant when it comes to tools and building, but I'm thinking of either gutting an old tv cabinet and making something out of that or just starting from scratch. My dad has a sheet metal shop, so he's going to make me a tray that slides out (easy cleaning!), a nesting box and perhaps something to cover the top.
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had suggestions of what I should/shouldn't do? What materials are good? Any features that are a must-have? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks

There have been some really great DIY aviaries, cages, and flights on here. Just scroll down thru the Housing posts, there is so much information here, with lots of photos and even directions.

Hard to advise.... there are a thousand different types of flight you could build. But don't forget if you have a removable tray for cleaning this would leave a gap.I suggest you make a hinged flap to cover the gap when the tray is removed, so you don't have any escapes.

Great idea, thanks
I've been sifting through old posts, but haven't found much relevant yet. There are just so many here!
