a star finch hen which i breed about 12 months ago laid its first egg today,the egg was blood stained and also the vent area of the star was blood stained.i have split the pair of stars up , as anyone had any idea of whats happened there is no signs of a prolapse and the hen appears fit and well.

I can only assume since no one has responded yet that they have no idea what's going on, unfortunately I'm pretty well in the same boat.
If I were to guess, I'd say she had troubles passing the egg. My suggestions would be to add calcium to the water, give her some extra heat and humidity - anything you'd do for an eggbound hen. I would also suggest not breeding her again for a while - her insides must hurt a lot right now...
