I am sorry to hear of your loss of Poppy and others.... It is especially difficult when you don't have the proper help from your vet.
There are many antibiotics for treating finches, baytril is a common one for respiratory diesease...
My favorites are Amoxitex for non-chlamydial intestinal and respiratory infections or Tetratex for chlamydial and intestinal bacterial infections.
Both are administered in the drinking water, fresh daily for 5 to 10 days.
I always remove the water the night before dosing of any meds, wormers, etc. this makes the birds drink with vigor the next morning and they are assured to get a good dose.
You should always give probiotics after any antibiotic to restore the beneficial gut bacteria.
Of course you should adminster the full term of the medication to combat drug resistant bacteria. Also you should only administer antibiotics when absolutely nescasary. Over medicating can also create resistant bacterias.
Find another Vet or like me with no small bird vets around invest in meds and keep refrigerated. Research the bird ailments .That way you are prepared. A day or even a few hours can make all the difference in a finches life.

Thank you Candice for your helpful reply! I did get the Probiotics. I figured even if the vet was right, which I'm thinkin' no on that one, it can't hurt to give it anyway.

My feathered kiddos seem to be doing fine now. *knock wood*

I appreciate all of the helpful advice and the thoughtful condolences. You guys are the best.

Thank you, Janine! You and me both as it sure is stressful when these wee ones get sick.
