At the moment, my 9 finches are housed in 3 smallish cages...and I'd like to put them all together in one larger flight...
I'd really like to get one of these, if at all possible...it's from QDC...has anyone dealt with them before?

I looked at this one!

I didn't go for it because of how low to the ground it is (I have a terrier). I just purchased the a BIG flight cage in champagne color from QDC. They had the best price that I could find so far on the internet while being a reputable company.
Read their terms of sale carefully. They have a BIG restocking fee if you end up wanting to return your cage whether it arrives damaged or not! I chose to take a chance and ordered.
My cage arrived in perfect condition and very nicely packaged for shipping. Corners were well protected and the interior was also layered with bubble wrap. The Prevue company did NOT do this when they shipped and I had some minor damage. QDC has good communication with the customer via email too.

plantsandbirds, did you end up getting
this cage from QDC? I'm so close to getting that one, and I'm thrilled to know that they packaged it well.
Is it really a good, solid cage? Does it screw together on the corners/edges? And finally, does it have any doors for food cups besides the main large doors, and the side breeder doors (I've seen some online that seem to have them, and some that don't)?
(Sorry to hijack your thread, Rue. I also looked seriously at that hex cage you pictured, but I decided that for less money, I could get quite a bit more flying space with the one I linked to above.)

Hello Steve....I purchased the one above. I hope the link works or at least gives you the ability to copy it.
I looked at the double flight cage and thought that would be the best for the birds but it was really too big for my little living room. Bird cage or couch? Bird cage or couch?

I had to chose the couch.
The single flight is BIG anyway and is very solid. I still have to put it together but I started today. I put everything in the basement for a few days so that my old Dad wouldn't see it on Saturday. "WHAT???? You bought ANOTHER CAGE????"

I'll let you know on the cups and seed trays as I'm really hoping to get it assembled today. I have to drain and move the African Clawed Frog tank (20 gallons) to make room for the bird cage. Are we nuts or what????

Thanks for the info. I really want that double flight. The picture you linked to doesn't look like it has doors, but the double flight that I linked to looks like it does. Seems like in yours, if it doesn't have little doors for that, and since the main doors only open out (not up and down) that you'd have a hard time filling food cups at the top of the cage, opening that big door, without risking escaping birds.
In the double, it wouldn't really be that bad since the birds would naturally flee to the other side when I had one side open, and I could even put the divider in there to keep them on one side while I fill food/water/whatever on the other side. So I really think I'd be okay. Let me know if yours seems nice and solid when you put it together. Actually, I saw one just like yours at the pet store this weekend - seemed very nice. But you just never know, with so many dealers and manufacturers out there.
I'm very close to convincing my wife that we need that big one.

No problem...any finch cage info./links more than welcome...
I just liked the look of the hex., and I have room for it...but not for one that's too long - I think I can't go longer than 48"...so the 34" hex. is quite roomy...
...it comes in charcoal too...which is something else I want: a cage with dark bars...I can't see through the white bars as well, I find them too distracting...esp. for seeing the little birds...
They ship to Canada which is a bonus...I'll have to eat the exchange and duty...but I can't find anything similar within Canada...so it will have to do...

what about making your own flight? That way you save big time on materials and everything! You can steal my design plans if you'd like, I priced my flight cage and it was going to cost less than $100 to make it. You can also look in the classifieds and you can call places that make custom aquariums/terrariums or bunny cages, a lot of those types of places also make bird cages. Where are you in Canada?

We're in Saskatchewan! I was thinking about building one too...but although hubby and I can do rough carpentry...our 'fine' carpentry skills really really suck...

I would seriously look into building one then... Honestly take a look at what Finchlet and TammieB built! They're amazing, my design is smaller than theirs, they used screen doors, I was going to use 1x1's and put it on a fish tank stand to keep it off the ground, my plans are posted here if you'd like to take a look. Unfortunately my b/f and I decided to get out of finches before we got in too deep so we're giving ours up after the chicks are old enough. In Sask I bet you'd have an easier time than me at finding the proper hardware cloth, stupid city people looked at me like I was bonkers asking for it.

Hi Rue - I like the look of that hex cage too...looks more "furniture-y" rather than "industrial".
I would be terrible at making my own cage

and not patient so I spent the $$. I admire those who can make their own!

That's part of it for me too...I like the 'furniture' look...unless it's an entire separate aviary *drool*....er, with a huge built in aquarium...*doubledrool*...
I'm still thinking! But I really need to make a decision soon...we're tired of the mess the 3 finch cages entail (not to mention I also have 3 parrot cages on the go).
Hardware cloth...funny you should mention it! It's called welded wire in various places...try both names next time you ask for it...

Oh I did, they still had no clue until I found it myself and showed it to them

TSC and Homehardware knew what I was talking about though
