Powdered Kelp?

Post by funtimes09 » Sun Jul 19, 2009 1:52 am

Hey everyone! The breeder I got my pair of gouldians from gave me a full bag of powdered kelp that he bought from ladygouldianfinch.com, I believe. It says on the package 1tsp for every 1 hard boiled egg. Do i need to do this or can I just put the powdered kelp in a food cup and they will eat it when they want and at there own pace? Thanks for the help in advance! :D

I keep mine in a treat dish for them to have access to whenever they want. They eat it quite a bit.

I would put kelp into a treat cup,I use what they call a finger cup small fits between the bars, mine eat a lot at times and then not so much shows they know when to eat

I, too, offer it separately free-choice.
I don't think they like it mixed into things, and I've never been able to get my birds to eat fresh egg food. They prefer the commercial stuff :/

I mix mineral grit, trace mineral powder, charcoal, kelp, garlic, quartz grit, crushed eggshell, powdered cuttle bone all together and offer this in a seperate seed dish. The kelp and mineral dust kind of coats everything else so they get trace minerals regularly.....before they are defecient. Also saves from having soo many cups in the cage.
