Re: Looking for cage seed guard
We take pride in our birds and my daughter gets all the credit for researching and creating the Sexing Owls webpage. Thank you very much, Cindy!cindy wrote: Hi, I visited your site, your birds are really pretty. I actually pulled your site up about 3 weeks ago by doing a search for "how to sex owl finches". I wanted to find pictures to study and take with me to the show in Orlando on August 9th. Your descriptions and photos were very helpful.

Your daughter did a great job, it was very informational. I actually made a copy of it to take with us to the show as a reference.

Excellent! Let us know how you make out at the show.

We purchased 2 pairs of Owls, thanks to your daughter's descriptions and pages I could look down at the tops of their heads and see the difference in the sexes. The man I bought them from used the same method along with looking at the bars on their chest. I was thrilled.
They are doing great, I have had them for about a month. They are about a yr old so I set them up in two flight cages with a keet box at one end and a finch nest at the other. My bold pair likes the bamboo nest and the other quieter pair likes the box. Both have started building. I give them mealies a few times a week along with veggies, dried egg and pellets and a good mix of seeds. I also have a cup with crushed oyster shells mixed with grated cuttlebone and mineral block (all my finches love that). I noticed my owls are getting a bit whiter and fuller. They are one of my favorite finches.
They are in a room that is quiet, I am trying not to fuss with them to much. When I go in to feed and check on them, they are always curious to see what I put in their cage, same with the Orange cheek and St Helena. My Gold Breasted are very shy and wait a while before investigating.
I also got a 2nd pair of Gold Breasted at the show. I am considering a pair of Cordon Bleu or Shaft-tail, Diamonds or Blue Billed Firefinch when the next show comes around in October.
