Kelp hep

Post by Hope » Wed May 02, 2007 10:49 pm

I read I should give my gouldian kelp, what form is the best? Do I mix it in other food? Is it okay for the other breeds of finches I have in the same cage? :?

Does anyone feed their birds corn? Since summer is coming, can I give them raw corn on the cob or should I cook it? How about squash, do I need to cook it or is shredded raw squash fine? :?

I use both liquid kelp (one drop per 2 cups of water twice a week) and kelp powder or granules (in a treat cup, left in their cages).

Hopefully somebody else can speak to the corn and squash!

Winter squash is fine (raw or cooked), corn is okay in moderation and should be cooked to decrease the activity of the protease inhibitors it contains.
