Not a bad idea. However, I am afraid they would show up in my living room because the aviary is adjacent, divided only by a cage door. I am already battling roaches and seed moths in my house, I don't need any crickets added to that. :-)

By the way: I do have wild crickets in the crawlspace under the house. Are these the same as the ones that are sold for birds and could I feed those (provided I can catch some. ;-)) or could they carry some disease or something?
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

I believe these are a different species of cricket, I will ask my husband and see what he thinks. Personally, if it is living under your crawlspace, eating whatever it can eat, sometimes spoiled or dead stuff or things I would not risk it. It might be good to stick to store bought.

After the episode of the dog knocking over the 1000 in the container on the porch, the birds are getting the cricket frozen, dead.

Zebra, Gouldians, Java, CBM Shaft tail & Grasskeets

   Don't blame ya!

I was also thinking that it might not be safe to feed them.

Please let me know what your husband thinks... Thanks!!

I asked him and he kind of agrees it is not worth the risk, store bought are raised usually under clean, controlled conditions.
