Gah! I just found another beetle crawling on the carpet - I don't understand how they are escaping from a 7" tall plastic ice cream container! I know they sometimes fly but... jeepers!

I may just stop this 'breeding' of mealworms and just order them - I'm thinking it's not worth the trouble. #-o I have tonnes of beetles but don't see any baby worms yet!

The worms are tiny first, so don't give up quite yet! Look closely, maybe you have some in there already...

I have my container covered with a "lid" that I made from plastic window screen material. This lets the air flow in, keeps the beetles in, and keeps other insects out.

But I have to admit that I am getting tired of breeding them too... ;-) I always forget to change the apples and veggies that I put in and they get moldy. And they haven't started to effectively reproduce either. I can't imagine ever producing enough worms anyway, my finches gobble them up like crazy....
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

as said by me a few months ago , you will get mealworms in your whole house , specialy between walls and ceilings , they love a bit warm and dark climate , and don't get me wrong but they survive on almost anything , the same goes up for the tiny mealworms ( we call them buffalo worms , 25% size off the normal mealworm) , there is no good bowl for feeding them , birds will drop a few and than it starts .... best thing to use is canned ones ore put the amount you need in warm water or freezer
