Nice! Tac some plastic zoo med vines on the walls and around your nests to give an exotic lush setting. Ficus do well. The birds don't destroy them like they do other plants. Also A bird bath may look nice in the center of the aviary. Something with an Aztec design. Just some suggestions for you to simmer over.

Also Is that screen you are using?? If so that is a no no. The birds claws can get caught up in screen and they can perish trying to untangle themselves.

Nice place for your birds. Great job. I do agree about the screen. Birds can easily get their claws in it. We replaced the screen on our door with a plastic hardward cloth. It isn't very expensive and no danger to the birds. Just a suggestion......

All that space for two little birds? Lucky finches! Don't know where you are located, but if you are in the U.S., Lowe's has a small fountain called the Daisy fountain on clearance for $24.99. Size would be perfect for your flight.

Sally, how is your fountain working from Wal-Mart? Did you get this one from Lowe's? I am looking for a small one to put in my addition when we finish it. I will check there today or tomorrow for the Daisey.

I am going to agree with everyone here, lot's of room for a water fountain(lucky you), and many, many more finches. Then again, you do have zebras so that should take care of filling it up, within a few months.

Donna, I did get the fountain from Wal-mart, and yesterday I added some stones from the yard to give some shallow areas in the bottom part of the fountain. As far as I can tell, none of my birds have used it yet. I bought the small Daisy fountain from Lowe's to put in a flight cage that is in that same room. Even though it is a fairly small fountain, it is almost too big for that cage, but thought I would give it a try. I have a pair of Senegal Fires and a pair of BCCBs in that cage, so I decided to try adding nests, etc., and see if they would breed in that cage. These four haven't tried out their fountain yet either, everyone acts kind of scared of them.

I guess I need to get a fountain! Can anyone post a picture of theirs so I know what I'm looking for?
Also Should I use Silk or Plastic plants in the aviary?

The poop stains the silk and and it does not come out. Also My birds would shread the silk. With the plastic you wash the poop off with no damage to the plant. That is my experience. Other breeders may prefer the silk. :?:

Also you have not answered the question about the screen.

Sally, I went to Lowe's, but I don't think we have any. Was it a fountain or just a bird bath?

They have to get used to one. It took mine about a week to bathe.....and now they love it.

They mostly bathe on the top part. The larger birds will go to the botttom, but not often.
