Oooooh.....I just gave in to MCS (Multiple Cage Syndrome)

You guys know when you find that really one good deal you just can't pass up?

Well I had one of those the other day. Somebody on Craigslist was selling 5 black HQ single flight cages. Since I have one of these style cages already and love it I knew I would get more in the future once I get my bird room (in a couple years). But when I saw that ad I just had to inquire about them.

He wanted $100.00 for each one....they were in like new condition including the coop cups and perches. He had 4 left. New ones are going for about $130.00 on the Internet. I offered to buy the last 4 cages if he would take $75.00 apiece. He did and I got them!

The Good: I got 4 like-new cages for a good price.

The Bad: I won't be able to use them for a couple years so we had to pack them away.

It is like getting that new shiny bicycle for Christmas but you can't use it until summer...lol! I guess I will just have to dream about what kinds of Finches I will buy to fill up the cages with!

So now this is where you tell me you would have done the very same thing!

Nice.... I love a good deal. Hmmmm who says you have to use the stand,,,you could stack a cage on top of the one you already have and it would not take up any more floor space... depending on how tall they are

I have that same cage for my Gold breast. The Orange cheek used to be in with them (they have their own place now). This is a great cage, I love it because to feed I use the bottom door, the birds go right to the top perches. I found that if you don't want to use the grate on the bottom you can wiggle the drawer in the grate slot, it gaps a tiny bit in the front but a thin piece of wood under the drawer solves that. Lots of flying room especially for little Gold breasts.

I picked mine up at a bird store at the flea market for $65.00, that was 4 yrs ago, you did great price wise since they have increased in price since then.

Can't wait to see what little birds you fill them with.

I was looking at my cage, if you want to stack the cages it looks like you can take the upper cross bars off the stand and slide the cage down to rest on the lower grill/shelf, then stack another cage on top, maybe put a thin board under the top cage for added support.

am wondering how long it will take before you see a pair of finches now that you 'just have to have' and start using the new cages

Say!....Candace that is a great idea of stacking the cages....never would have though of that. I measured the cage and the second one would be higher than my ceiling....too bad I didn't have vaulted ceilings.

I could do like Cindy suggested though...remove the cross bars on the lower unit and set two on top of that. I just measured and I would need a step ladder to access the cage on top if I stacked....hmmmm a set of rolling steps would be in order...lol! *Cindy I don't use the grate after reading here how it can injure little finch feet. See the photo below to see how Hubby modified the cage for me by using a little strip of wood and zip ties...it works wonderfully to keep the finches from getting out.

Oh just what I need...and excuse to set up another cage....Hubby would NOT be happy about that after spending all that time finding a way to pack up all the 4 cage parts.

But just this morning I saw somebody selling a White flight cage for $75.00 on Craigslist.....Must Resist....Must Resist!

Since we are remodeling and painting our house to get ready to sell. I just can't justify setting up another cage right now so 4 finches in one cage will have to do!

That is so smart of you to pick up those cages now, Deborah. When you are ready to do your birdroom, there won't be any deals around. I just love these single HQ flights. I couldn't stack mine either, normal 8' ceiling, unless I did like Cindy suggested. Might have to try that one of these days.

Hi...aren't zip ties great Deborah? I used almost the same method you did with the little gap at the top above the door and just below the door. I have tiny Gold Breast in mine, I was afraid they would wiggle out. I will have to try what you so I don't have to prop the tray up. Great idea!

I noticed Dr. Foster and Smith is running a summer special on a cage like this for $64.99.

It looks like it sits lower to the ground than ours, maybe it is a different manufacture. I would have more of this type of cage if I had the space.
