Perches Changes and Finches Drop to Bottom

Thanks for all of the complements. Things have really moved along and they don't go to the bottom nearly as much. I was ready to go out and buy some sandpaper, thinking that this was the problem, but as it turns out, I think it was just a combination of fear/newness that made them unsure. They are doing fine now.

Below are a few pics that show just how used to the perches they are. One of them is very comfortably perched (plopped) and resting. He happens to be the more timid of the two. On the other hand, the other one is the only one of the two that clings to the ladder to eat seed off of the hanging stick. I put that in there at times, because it gives them amusement, something different, and some exercise all at the same time.

Thanks !! Nope they are two very content males. I went through the breeding rountine a few years ago. The hen laid two eggs, one fertile, and a few weeks later, the egg hatched. After several weeks in the nest, the baby was poking his head out of the nest a few times a day. Then one day I found the baby on the floor dead. Shortly thereafter, the female died unexpectedly. So I thought no more babies here. So my guy was not alone, I drove down the block to Petsmart, and got him company. Let's put it this way, it took me about an hour, but when I left the store, I knew with 99% certainty that I had bought a male and that there would be NO MORE BABIES around here.

Had the same experience 3x at PetSmart. Standing there watching and watching and watching and watching for them to sing.

Then with so many similar looking societies in the cage, it is HARD to ID the one to tell the guy to catch. Luckily 2 of mine were unique looking, so I could easily keep track of them in the chaos of catching them. But, the 3rd looked VERY similar to all the rest in the cage, so I had to really keep my eye on him as they flew around the cage when the guy tried to catch him. At least w the PetSmart guarantee, you can take it back if it turned out to be a female.
