Oyster shell grit - ok for finches?

Post by finchbob » Sun Sep 13, 2009 2:11 pm

Is oyster shell grit ok for my finches? I read about not feeding them grit, but this just looks like crushed oyster shell, and i've no idea why they called it grit.

That is the BEST kind of grit and should be the only grit for finches. =D>

agrees with Liz ... its the best you can get =D>

some animal shops will try to sell you crushed stones / rocks ... don't feed that unless you have pidgeons ( they swallow whole seeds and they need the stones to crush it ) , our finches use there beak !!

add some crushed cuttlefish and some crushed eggshells to the oystershell and your birds will be getting a good mix of what they need
Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.

I use the oystershell grit and they love it and i also give them Powdered cuttlebone in their eggfood to make sure they get enough calcium.
